All ceremonies are conducted in English and Marriage certificates are issued in English.
Civil Weddings:
Civil weddings are held in the Town Hall from Monday to Friday (except Public Holidays) and are conducted by the Registrar.
There are various documents that you will both need to bring to Cyprus depending on your status, in order to accurately complete the paperwork process for your wedding (Legalities)
You will need to be in Cyprus at least three working days before the day of your marriage.
There is an additional charge made by the registrar for civil ceremonies not held at one of the Town Halls.
Catholic weddings:
Catholic weddings in Cyprus must be preceded by a civil Ceremony.
Once you have informed the priest of your local parish of your intention to conduct your Catholic wedding in Cyprus, he will then confirm the requirements and will send the necessary documents to the priest in Cyprus who will be conducting the religious service.
For a Catholic wedding both partners must have been baptized. (Legalities)
Anglican Weddings:
For an Anglican Church wedding, at least one party must have a baptism certificate. (Legalities)
The Anglican Church in Cyprus will require the name of your local Church in the UK plus, your priest's name and a full contact address in order to inform them of your marriage.
UK Citizens require an Affidavit, Irish Nationals require a Freedom Certificate and Scottish Citizens require a Certificate of No Impediment.
Wedding Blessing
Wedding Blessings can be arranged to follow your Civil Ceremony in a venue of your choice.
Greek Orthodox Christians Ceremonies in Cyprus:
In order for a marriage licence to be published between two Orthodox Christians the following are required:
1. Identities and Passports of those interested.
2. Certificates of Birth.
3. Certifications of Thalassemia of those interested
4. Certificates of Freedom. The certificate of freedom is published by the birth place of those interested,
5. Affidavit. Is required for those interested who have travelled abroad and remained for a period more than 6 months or/and the priest that will publish the Certificate of Freedom does not know the interested.
6.Written consent of the parents in the event that one or even both of those interested are minors. In such a case the consent of Metropolis is needed.
7. Reciprocal consent. It is prepared by the priest who will perform the wedding ceremony and it is signed by those interested.
8. Certificate for publication of marriage licence. It is granted by the priest who will perform the wedding ceremony.
9. Certificate of engagement. It is only published when an engagement is perfomed from the priest who has officiated the engagement and the marriage will take place in another parish.
10. Proof of payment of rights of transport of marriage from the parish of nymph, provided that the marriage will take place in another parish.
11. In order for the Mystery of marriage to take place those interested must have supplemented the 18th year of their age. In no case the man exceeds the woman more than 12 years or in the opposite case the woman exceeds the man more than 6 years. In different case, the approval of the Metropolis is required.
